THURSDAY 11th JUNE 2009 (FINALLY SET EYES ON THE K-750M)

THURSDAY 11th JUNE 2009

The day we've been waiting for for many months. We were picked up early and driven by taxi up a bumpy, narrow lane-way with old garages lining both sides. The streets are worse than our bush tracks!

We were about to see our new (old) bike for the first time and weren't disappointed. It was even better than we expected. We met Anatoli BARANOV who was the registered owner of the bike and he took Paul for a ride up the lane and Paul rode it back. He had a grin on his face the size of Ukraine! I was then shuffled into the sidecar and we all rode to the registration office. It seems helmets are not required...!!! We got the registration transferred to Paul's name (cost $5.00 AUS) and this lasts indefinitely. Australia could learn a lesson or two from here...!!! The bike is now officially ours.

The bike was taken to Igor's, Cherkassy's best mechanic, and he and Anatoli proceeded to go over the bike from head to foot. This all took a long time - our job appeared to be to sit and watch (in 35 degree heat). The rear brake broke between the rego office and Igor's. That was soon fixed and a new 6 volt battery purchased. We were driven home at 7.00pm exhausted from doing nothing. However, we are so very thrilled with the bike and hope it serves us well.

We have been advised to not ride over 60kph and to stop every 50 minutes to cool the engine. Paul is now questioning his sanity...!!!
